U.S. Patent
Office rejected a patent application pinch-to-zoom filed by Apple. Technology
patents gesture is one of the many "weapons" used by Apple against
Samsung in court.
With this rejection, Apple was not able to use those patents to sue Samsung. However, Apple still has several other patent infringement claims, such as the ability to enlarge and shrink the image by tapping the screen and the effect of the movement of single-touch and multi-touch.
Apart from the basic features in the operating system, Apple has demanded the design of Samsung products. "Rounded corners" in some Samsung mobile devices violate patents owned by Apple.
Quoted by Reuters on Friday (21/12/2012), information on the cancellation of a patent is obtained from court documents owned by Samsung.
It should be emphasized that this is only the initial decision of the Patent and Trademark Office in the U.S.. There will still be there the next rounds before a final decision is taken.
This initial decision stated that the patent should not have given to Apple. Re-examination of the patent was filed by Samsung.
Both the Samsung and Apple still refuses to comment related cancellation.
